Building with Purpose: Meet Philipp, Our General Manager
For Philipp, leading the team at Hudson Homes is about more than managing a building portfolio. It is about setting a standard for how people work together, how clients are supported and how challenges are approached. His focus has always been on creating an environment where honesty, accountability and good communication shape the entire customer experience.
As a licensed builder with a strong background in residential construction, Philipp brings broad experience across Sales, Operations and Construction. He pairs this with a hands on leadership style and a calm, solutions focused approach, helping drive high quality outcomes for both customers and the wider team.
Philipp believes that Hudson Homes’ biggest strength is its values. These values guide how the team works with clients and how issues are handled when they arise.
“Our core values really set us apart. They shape our behaviour, and that behaviour shapes the experience we give our customers. When issues come up, we acknowledge them, communicate clearly and put things right.”
Celebrating wins is an important part of Philipp’s leadership style. He knows that recognition means different things to different people, so he adapts his approach depending on the individual or the team.
“There are many ways to motivate and support people. It depends on who they are and what matters to them.”
A moment that stands out for Philipp was when Hudson Homes won the HIA Australian Major Professional Builder award. It was an achievement that represented the commitment of the entire team.
“It was a huge team effort. Seeing everyone’s work recognised at that level is something I will always remember.”
When it comes to what matters most in building homes for families, Philipp points back to the values that anchor the business. These values influence every decision that is made, from the first meeting with a client through to handover.
For customers choosing a builder, Philipp believes transparency is key. He takes pride in being clear and upfront, especially when it comes to potential challenges.
“We call things out early. If we see something that might affect the build such as site costs or compliance challenges, we let the customer know straight away and explain how we will manage it. Being upfront builds trust.”
Building comes with its own complexities. Lot sizes continue to shrink, weather conditions vary significantly across regions and regulations evolve frequently. Requirements such as BASIX and updated NCC provisions create additional considerations for every home design.
“There are many challenges, but we are always adapting. Our processes and designs continue to evolve to suit the landscape and regulations.”
Some of the improvements Hudson Homes has made are not immediately visible to customers, but they make a real difference once the home is built. Philipp explains that the standard level of inclusions is already higher than what most builders offer, particularly when it comes to framing and insulation.
“These upgrades improve comfort, durability and long term performance. They are the kinds of details people may not notice at first, but they feel the benefits once they move in.”
Local council regulations, flood requirements, bushfire zones and other codes also play a major role in shaping design decisions.
“They influence almost everything. From materials to engineering to how we position the home, local conditions and codes are front of mind.”
Maintaining consistent quality is a major focus, especially with such diverse regions ranging from the coast to more inland areas. Hudson Homes manages this through a combination of internal quality checks, independent third party assessments and ongoing customer feedback.
“Quality is not a single stage. It is something we check, measure and respond to throughout the entire build.”
Philipp is constantly working with the team to find and create efficiencies, so that the process becomes more streamlined and potential issues are identified and addressed as soon as possible, especially in the pre-construction and estimating stages. This results in more accurate planning and ultimately, a smother journey for both the customer and the construction team.
Sustainability is another priority. Energy efficient design is built into Hudson’s ongoing design reviews, with careful consideration given to cost, performance and the realities of climate zones.
“We look at every design with both cost and efficiency in mind. The goal is always to build homes that are comfortable, efficient and suited to where people live.”
Looking ahead, Philipp’s vision for Hudson Homes is centred on creating the best possible customer experience.
“Our goal is simple. We want to become Australia’s best home building business by having the happiest customers.”
For Philipp, every home built is a reflection of the values that guide the team. His leadership is grounded in clear communication, proactive problem solving and a genuine commitment to building homes that families can trust. With Philipp at the helm, customers know their home is being built by a team that cares about every step of the journey and every family they support.
